San Gimignano, Italy

On our way from Florence to Rome we stopped by San Gimignano (map) for a few hours. As the beautiful town on top of a hill in the middle of Tuscany is pretty small, a few hours are perfect to wander through the little narrow streets and get a feeling of San Gimignano. We were quite lucky as we arrived early in the morning, everything was just about to open and with a few other people we were the only tourists. Walking down the hilly streets we nearly stopped at every shop offering specialities like wild boar salami, tuscan cheese, olive oil, home made pasta and many more. San Gimignano is a medieval town with typical buildings and an unforgettable, Italian flair. Whilst walking the small streets we found many unique backyards that let us feel like we were in another time period.

When you reach the outer city wall, don’t miss to walk through the gates and enjoy the overwhelming view over the lush and green hills of Tuscany. We couldn’t get enough of this wonderful Italian atmosphere that we will never forget.
