Lighthouse Festival, Croatia

The time has finally come, Lighthouse Festival 2016, one of our favourite times every year. This electronic festival is organized by Pratersauna (Vienna) and took place for the fourth time after starting in 2013. Their slogan is ´electronic music on vacation´ and this perfectly fits! It combines your vacation in one of the best spots in Europe…

Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Eindhoven (map) has 220.000 inhabitants and is the Netherland´s fifth largest city. It belongs to the province of North Brabant and is only about 60 km away from Germany. As we are living in Essen, we originally only knew Eindhoven for its airport. It is a rather small airport, but very modern with cheap connections…

Cinque Terre, Italy

Cinque Terre (map) can be translated as ´the five lands´. This translation sounds a bit like a term or a title from ´Lord of the Rings´ or  ´Game of Thrones´ and in a way it sounds like a huge region or even a combination of large communities. But in fact, Cinque Terre just stands for…

San Gimignano, Italy

On our way from Florence to Rome we stopped by San Gimignano (map) for a few hours. As the beautiful town on top of a hill in the middle of Tuscany is pretty small, a few hours are perfect to wander through the little narrow streets and get a feeling of San Gimignano. We were quite…

Essen, Germany

Essen (map) has nearly 600.000 inhabitants and is the 9th largest city of Germany. We have been living in this city for some time now and would love to share our secret spots with you. Historically, Essen has always been connected to mining. During the 1950´s and the 1960´s the coal and steel mines of…

Hamburg, Germany

As Carlotta has lived in Hamburg (map) for a while, we had quite some time to discover the city. Hamburg has a neighbourhood for everyone, whether it’s chic, alternative, young, settled, multicultural, waterfront, right in the center or more quiet. With its many canals, Hamburg is the European city with the most bridges – it has even…

Florence, Italy

On our two-week tour through Italy, we stayed in Florence (map) for three days. This is the perfect amount of time to get a first impression of the city. We have to say that you have to get used to the driving style of the locals and the traffic. We experienced it to be more…

Madeira, Portugal

After travelling through northern Italy for about 1 week , we flew from Venice to Madeira (map). Our airline was called TAP (Portuguese, national airline) and we had to stop in Lisbon on both ways. Sadly all of our four flights were delayed. Still we would recommend TAP as it is a solid airline. We…

Crete, Greece

We couldn’t wait to touch down in Chania (map) and start our long-awaited 1 week hiking vacation. We decided to take a bus straight away to Paleochora to firstly enjoy the nature before spending our last two days in Chania. We took a bus from the airport to the bus station of Chania to then get on the…

Valencia, Spain

Valencia (map) is the third largest city of Spain and has about 800 000 inhabitants, but somehow this city doesn´t seem to be on the map of many travellers. We decided to go to Valencia for just a couple of days, during the last days of the German winter. When we looked for flights, we…

Lisbon, Portugal

When we arrived at the airport we first picked up our hired car and then drove to our apartment which we booked via Airbnb. Our apartment was located in a lively and beautiful district, called Alfama. It was perfect for us, as it gave us the opportunity to just wander around and find interesting little…

Varadero, Cuba

Until the end of our tour we didn’t really know whether to visit Varadero or not. We have only heard stories about 4 star hotels, huge resorts and mass tourism. But Varadero is also famous for its beautiful beaches so in the end we did stay there for two nights. Walking around and looking for a casa on-site even though it was enormously hot was the best decision we had made. Thanks to our patience and energy we found a very modern and charming casa with great hosts which was located directly on the beach. The dinner was delicious and everything was perfect for our last two days in Cuba. Unfortunately we can’t remember the name of this casa as the trip was nearly one year ago but it was close to Calle 44. We recommend you to stay in the front part of the Peninsula as this is where Cubans spend their holidays as well. The further you get to the end of the Peninsula the more big hotels and resorts you will find.
